What’s on for

Children & Families?

Wimborne Minster Folk Festival is for all the family. We have a great range of activities to occupy the little ones and give the bigger ones a rest while they're occupied.

Stencilling

Throughout Saturday and Sunday, Banks and Hanham Rooms, ground floor, Allendale House

Nicola and Olivia will be running crafting workshops where children can make festival headdresses and have fun with fabric printing and stencilling.

Eat as much as you can!

Throughout Saturday and Sunday, Stour Room, Allendale House

Have fun playing our chocolate game - throw a six then dress up in oversized clothing and try to eat as much chocolate as you can before being ousted by the next person who throws a six!

Join in garden games on Allendale Green (outside Allendale Community Centre) including Quoits, Giant Jenga, Bean Bag throwing, skittles and Giant Connect Four

Human Fruit Machine

Saturday, Allendale Green (outside Allendale Community Centre)

Wimborne Rotary’s infamous Human Fruit Machine can be found on the green outside Allendale Community Centre. Conceived by one of the Rotary member's wives, it fits around a 3 metre by 3 metre gazebo and is manned internally by Rotarians. The HFM always causes much hilarity whenever used - in fact more people video it rather than playing. It's played and enjoyed by all ages, though most of the children have never seen anything like it! Any funds raised will be donated to charity, as is normal for Rotary events.

Singing Mamas

Saturday morning, Allendale House

Family singing session with Ruth from Singing Mamas Dorset. All welcome. Toys provided. Simple harmony songs taught by ear. No singing experience needed.

Singing Mamas is a national non-profit committed to improving maternal wellbeing through singing. The Wimborne group meets on a Friday morning.

Jill and Madeleine - New Forest Storytellers

Saturday morning, Berber Lee room (second floor, Allendale House)

Jill and Madeleine are two New Forest Storytellers who have many years of storytelling experience catering for families (inc. children 5+). Madeleine loves finding the human in mythology and Jill the humour in jeopardy.  This year they are bringing Dragon stories with tales of bravery, trickery and teamwork from across the world and across history.

Taprisha Storytelling

Saturday afternoon, Berber Lee room (second floor, Allendale House)

2 - 2.30pm and 3 - 3.30pm.  Taprisha loves finding the wisdom from ancestral stories. The two stories that she's bringing to this year’s Festival are from The King of Ireland's Son. Part 1: The Enchanter's Beard and Part 2: Escape from the Giant. The King of Ireland's Son is a series of tales from the West of Ireland. Full of Magic and Romance with a mild smattering of humour. Taprisha is bringing the best bits to Wimborne for your enjoyment. Suitable for anyone over 8 years old.

The Wilding Wimborne team will be on the green in front of Allendale Community Centre alongside the River Allen, where they will be conducting interactive river dipping sessions exploring and chatting about the wildlife present in the river.

Drum Runners

Sunday, Allendale House

Join the Drum Runners Interactive Junk Music Workshop for a day of fun and discovery. Create a Junk band. Learn to play some great rhythms using the drums provided (including bicycle wheel drums). Fun, funky and full of original songs and rhythms to bring communities and families together. For all heights and ages.
