Travel, parking & road closures

You have to get here to enjoy the Festival, and we want to help you do that!

 

Location

The Folk Festival takes place in the centre of Wimborne Minster, Dorset.

 

Travel

By road 

Wimborne Minster is just off the A31 in east Dorset. Roads lead to the town from Canford Bottom, Merley and Lake Gates roundabouts on the A31. You can also reach Wimborne from the B3078. 

This part of Dorset is very popular with holidaymakers, weekend visitors and day trippers. Whichever day you're travelling to Wimborne, aim to get here early in the day to avoid the traffic.

 

By train

Nearest train station is Poole, with a good service* on the Weymouth to London Waterloo line. (*Check for any industrial action or engineering works before travelling)

There’s a taxi rank directly outside; Wimborne is approximately 6.5 miles away. Alternatively, Poole Bus Station is a couple of minutes’ walk, with a regular service to/from Wimborne. See More Bus timetable.

Bournemouth station is on the same Weymouth to Waterloo line but further away from Wimborne.

 

By bus

A variety of local buses run to Wimborne.

Info from More Bus site: Routes 3, 4, 6, 13, from 1600 7 June to 1900 9 June.
​All buses will terminate and start on Hanham Road at the Police / Ambulance station.

From the Police/Ambulance Station, walk down the hill. Allendale Centre (for tickets/programmes/concerts) is on your right, opposite The Olive Branch pub.

Turn left after The Olive Branch, towards The Square. Information Point in The Square for info and programmes.

By air

Bournemouth Airport is approximately 8.5 miles away.

 

Parking

There are a number of permanent, council-run car parks in the town centre.

There are free motorcycle parking bays in many of the car parks.

Road closures

A small number of road closures are necessary for the Festival to operate safely in the town centre.

Closed from Friday 7th, 6pm to Sunday 9th, 5pm:

East Borough, from junction with Hanham Road to The Square

The Square

High Street

Closed on Saturday 8th, 1.30pm to 3.30pm (for Festival Procession):

East Street, from junction with Park Lane to King Street
