Folk Festival Volunteers

Stewards jpeg.jpg

No Festival such as ours can operate without the support of volunteers and we are indebted to those hardy souls that come back and support us annually. However, as you can imagine, we continually require new recruits to help us keep the Festival alive. Indeed, over the last year, a number of similar events have had to be cancelled due to the lack of requisite numbers to manage the occasion.

In particular, we need volunteers to perform the following duties over the Festival weekend:

Town Stewarding. Helping to man information points and providing answers to any questions that visitors may have. While we do ask our stewards to patrol the streets occasionally to keep an eye on things, we will not ask you to sell anything unless you are at one of the information points and comfortable in doing so. We may also ask you to man car parking and street closures for short periods as cover for our dedicated traffic stewards when they take breaks.

Saturday Parade. This is really just an extension of town stewarding. Between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday afternoon we require stewards to walk with the parade in order to monitor crowd control. We need a minimum number for this particular activity in order for the parade to take place, so this is a key (but short-time) need which is very important for us. You may be asked to carry a collecting bucket while performing this role but it is by no means compulsory.

Concert Stewarding. This involves collecting and selling tickets on the door of our concerts. Monitoring of people entering and exiting the venue and also ensuring fire exits are kept free. This role is ideal for those who may want to hear one or more specific musical artists. We try to match you with your choice(s) where possible.

Additionally, we have some requirements for anyone wishing to help with the children's areas (although a DBS equivalent may be required) and for our Art Exhibition.
